Fancy Friday v. 42

Good morning lovely ladies! Friday friday friday! Yippppee! I don't think Mr. Beau and I have been home once this week at night. It was a fun week full of afternoon tea with blogger friends, late night business emails, late night events and dinner dates. Now it is the weekend and thank goodness for that because we need some rest. I am planning a fun bridal shower coming up next month, a photoshoot for my business and redecorating our flat, so with all of that, I have been browsing around for loads of inspiration. Along the way this past week I have found a few things that have inspired me and caught my eye. Enjoy the weekend ahead and I hope you like all the fancies I found this week! xoxo

1. Wildfox Flamingo Sweatshirt  - Right! Who doesn't need a sweatshirt with flamingos! Me. Me!

2.Cakey Coo Cookies - I discovered this company a few months ago and well, I am totally in love. Their graphic cookies are pretty amazing don't you think? You can order them on Not On The HighStreet!

3. Deliciously Ella Cookbook  - For Lent I have given up poultry and meat of all sorts. I have been sting a lot of vegetarian meals this past week and am craving some new recipes. I need to get my hands on this cookbook.

4. VV Rouleaux - How I have let over a year and half living in London without discovering this shop is beyond me. Check out this pic on my Instagram …it is ribbon heaven.

5. Abby Jiu in Glitter Guide - Really fun to see my a glimpse into my wedding photographers gorgeous home!

6. Blueberry Quinoa Cake Recipe - How amazing does this recipe look that Laura created.

A little wedding SPARKLE and a little Oscar glamour

I am a HUGE Oscar fan! I love watching the red carpet, seeing all of the movies before the awards night and staying up late until the film of the year has been announced. Maybe my love of the big movie night goes back to my days when I thought one day I could be winning one of those golden trophies {oh my, the high school drama days!}, makes me laugh and smile. Living abroad has always made me a little frustrated that I can not watch the entire show the evening of the Academy Awards, being that we are so far ahead of time. However, when I opened up my Instagram account to see me and my beautiful sparkly bridesmaids compared to being on the red carpet, that made me smile! Along with my wedding sparkle, I rounded up my favorite red carpet moments, which I would be happy to wear to any occasion, say I change professions and get back into acting;)

Fancy Friday v. 41

I Fancy FRIDAY! Yipppeee, Friday! The Friday before Valentine's Day, a week full of hearts, chocolates, bubbly and LOVE. I have been wearing pink and hearts all week, yes, I'm not kidding, I did. It has been a jammed packed week full of new business enquiries {hooray!}, a fun wedding business event for the lovely Nu Bride and lots of planning for a lot of travel we have planned ahead! Thank goodness Friday is here and a fun two day break is ahead. Happy Friday lovelies!

A few things I fancied throughout the week:

1. xoxo print  - PRINTABLE! OMG, this print is adorable.

2. Rihanna's Grammy Dress - I know her dress was over the top and HUGE, but guess what…I FANCY IT, I LOVE IT, I wish I could wear it to an award show!

3. Valentine's Day Baked Doughnuts & Baked Vanilla Bean Doughnuts - So I am going to make some sweets this weekend to try them out before a fun Bridal Shower I am hosting and these two are making the list.

4. Oliver Bonas kiss print shirt  - I almost, almost bought this shirt yesterday. eeekk, a blouse with kisses all over it is way too cute

5. Pink Hunter Wellies - I am in need of a new pair of wellies and can not decide, black or pink????
hmmm.

6. Judy Broad Modern Calligraphy - I have worked with Judy on a few projects and am SO excited for her to see her new sparkling website up!

7. LK Bennet Bow Shoes - Pink shoes with pretty bows have my name written on them. Mr. Beau, can I have these please?

8. A CUT - I'm officially bored of my hair. I have a bit of an attachment to my long locks and have been thinking, its time for a little cut. Long bob? Photos from brit+co & Birdie.

9. I'm still in the itch to re do every thing in our flat. It is a slow process but slowly coming along. How great is this IKEA hack!!! Love it.

London Valentine's Day Sweets

I do not need to admit that I have a sweet tooth, I think you may already know that! A little piece of dark chocolate, a few macarons, a cupcake treat, I do LOVE a little piece of sweet thank you. With Valentine's Day this weekend I thought I would share some of my favorite local London sweets. I mean really, who wouldn't be happy with personalized marshmallows, heart boxes full of champagne truffles, a red velvet cake or….homemade s'mores. I think if my husband came home with Anges de Sucre s'mores, I may need to marry him all over again;)

Working Women : Lamplighter London

I always love sharing a new post on my Working Women Series! Having just launched my own business, these women always inspire me with their stories; their honest truth about the hard work it takes to run your own business and the story behind the beginning of their business. Today I am so excited to introduce you to Chiara from Lamplighter London.  I met Chiara at a Quill London Modern Calligraphy class I attended before Christmas and was completely in love with her beautiful ease of her scripty art of calligraphy {yep, I have a bit of thing for some curly pretty calligraphy!}. After looking around at her business it was certain to me that Chiara had taken a  love of hers and found a way to make it her business, its pretty fab. Enjoy the Working Women spotlight today on Chiara with Lamplighter London
When did you start your business?
I started Lamplighter London in 2012, but I went full time in 2013. Prior to that I was working as a freelance designer and illustrator, loosely creating Lamplighter without even realising it!
What advice do you have for younger women looking to start their own business?

I'm constantly inspired by all the amazing young women starting businesses, making, creating, writing and selling.  Simply doing something, anything, in the right direction will get the ball rolling, even if it's alongside another job in the beginning. Your first sale or commission will make your heart soar, so find your niche, have a basic idea of where you want to be, think big and go out and make it happen. Be ready to work really hard if you want to make it your day job.
Love your brand, and know your market inside out too, this helps with development and direction. Be prepared to probably make some mistakes along the way... I have, and felt like chucking it all in, and shed a few tears, but I've learnt so much and it really has all been worth it.  A solo small business really can consume you, especially in the beginning, so try and break away to recharge every now and then. I find a work life balance hard, but I think that's what you have to be prepared for if you want to make it on your own. Sometimes a few days away from the computer can give you much needed perspective, I always end up being excited to get stuck in again.

How would you describe the ideal Lamplighter London client?

I work with such a wide variety of people, from private clients throwing a special party, event planners working on a destination wedding, large corporate clients, one off events and even a few VIPs thrown in. It's hard to say who the ideal client is - but my favourites are those wanting something really special -  I love creating bespoke pieces for my clients, and it's so much fun when I'm trusted to create something totally unique for their event.

Do you have a trademark style?

Some people say I do - often a combination of hand lettering and elements of nature in my personal pieces. You can usually spot a crescent moon or some stars in my designs - the skies are my inspiration. My calligraphy has definitely honed a strong personal style of late, which has been a long time in practise.  With design I love to try new techniques and colours, I've experimented with marbling, lettering and sunprints in 2014, and have a really exciting range of new products which will be available early this year.

What is your favourite part about running your own business? What is your LEAST favourite part?

I love being able to plan how my day, week, month & year will unfold, I always feel inspired after a big planning session. Of course there's the total creative freedom, the beauty of making a living from my art, for which I feel lucky every single day. But the excitement and possibilities of the future really drive me, I love big ideas! My parents are both entrepreneurs, it's all I've ever known, so it must be in my blood. Predictably for a creative, my least favourite part is the numbers... I have to call my Dad sometimes to check I've done my calculations right.  At school I spent many a maths lesson decorating the cover of my exercise books (and then all of my friend's), I definitely should have listened more!

Best moment of your career so far?

Being requested by Nike for a huge project last summer was an incredible highlight, a whirlwind of intense studio days and nights making hundreds of signs and thousands of calligraphy tags, but so rewarding. I've got some major news I can't divulge just yet, but it may just be my new best career moment to date - stay tuned!
From wedding clients to event planners, to Nike, Nestle, Cath Kidston, Brides Magazine to even Royalty {hello Princess Marie Chantal!}, Chiara is creating an amazing brand and name for herself! Thank you so much for sharing with us Chiara!!! xoxo

Gifts for the Month of Love : Valentine's Day Ideas

Yes, I am that girl who loves Valentine's Day. It isn't just the day, it is the whole month of February, the idea that wearing pink all month is absolutely fine. I love the time around Valentine's Day for the idea of giving gifts and sweets to the ones you love whether it is a boyfriend, husband, sister, mom, friend, etc. My husband has married a hopeless romantic and he accepts {maybe!} the idea that yes, this is one lady who loves a sweet Valentine! Some people hate the day, as more of a commercial day, but hey, I love one more reason to celebrate the day full of love, why not! From monogrammed necklaces, pink purses, to fresh roses and rose scented bath oils, here are a few of my favorite heart filled gifts!

Happy Valentine's Day! xoxo - Becca
